Flaming Sacred Heart
A flaming sacred heart necklace made with an Australian wood replacement boulder opal, or fossilized wood opal, set in solid Sterling silver. This piece was created using the ancient art of repoussé, which involves hammering a design into a sheet of metal to create a relief sculpture. Thus, the form is partially hollow, creating a lighter but very strong piece of jewelry.
The imagery of the flaming heart symbolizes Christ's passionate love and compassion for his Church and humanity, and originates in the early Middle Ages. The shape of this exquisite Australian wood replacement opal suggested a heart to me, which then inspired the design surrounding it.
This opal is sourced from Signature Opal, a small, family owned opal mining operation with generations of experience in Australia that ethically and responsibly mines their opals in South West Queensland, Australia.
This pendant has the option to include a 30" long Sterling silver wheat chain.
